Good Night Mister Tom
Chapters 1-3
Class 4 have been reading over the last 2 weeks the first three chapters of Good Night Mister Tom. We have discussed new words (below) and we have answered some retrieval and inference questions. In these chapters, we meet the two main characters (Tom Oakley and William Beach) we learn that William was beaten by his mother and so he is very nervous when he meets Tom. Initially, Tom doesn’t want an evacuee but as the chapters are developing we think his opinion is changing. Tom also has a dog called Sammy and in the last chapter they have taken him on a walk across the countryside fields to the doctor’s house as Tom wanted to ask him some advice about how to look after William.

Thank you to everyone who has made a cake etc and who is helping tomorrow at the Halesworth Co-op.

Have a good weekend!

We look forward to seeing some of your learning when we get back.

Just a few highlights!

The White Giraffe

Chapter 16

In this chapter Martine has escaped the cave/lovely land where the giraffe was and had jumped into the back of the poachers van. Martine could have been in danger, but fortunately she managed to hide from them. She even managed to get a quick look at what the poachers looked like, although she could not identify them fully! Later in the chapter, when she had arrived home, the poachers had been caught and Alex (game reserve) apologised for his actions and how he treated Martine. Despite his apology, Martine is still suspicious of him and thinks he could be behind the poaching of the African animals. Martine now trusts none, except her friend, Jemmy. (The White Giraffe.)

The words we have looked up in the dictionary were:
  • ·         Propelled
  • ·         Accomplice
  • ·         Predicament
  • ·         Cautiously
  • ·         Dense foliage
  • ·         Bemused

We have also practiced our retrieval of information and inference skills.
