                                                         Week commencing 14.09.20

This week Class 4 have been learning about negative numbers and Roman Numerals in Maths. Above are some of the Roman Numerals we made with match sticks.

In English we were creating our own M and S persuasive adverts. We were describing our 'unusual' sandwich that we had created. Some of us had actually made and ate our sandwich for homework. We then looked at persuasive devices before we wrote our own adverts. We all enjoyed this activity and came up with some good pieces of writing. Some of us decided to take our adverts a step further and actually recorded them. Below are the ones who wanted to record. Unfortunately, we had an excellent video of Francesca's advert but it hasn't been able to upload as it is quite a long one.

A big well done to our Gold Book winners this week:

Francesa-Excellent advert using great persuasive features.

Lois-Brilliant attitude to her work and great participation in class.

                                                             Welcome back to Autumn 2020

Class 4 have settled back into school really well in the last few days. It has been really good to see everyone again.

Thursday, we started off our day with some P.E. It was great to see Mr Sanders again. He warmed the class up with a run around our back field and then we used hockey sticks and balls to play a few warm up games and get our hand eye co ordination back to where we left off. We then spent the rest of the P.E lesson playing some tennis with a partner. We all came back into class feeling like we had a really good workout. We do have pictures of our lesson. Mrs Jenkins will add them next week when she has checked photo permissions. As we are in our P.E kit all day, it might be worth children bringing in a spare T-shirt and possibly deodorant so they feel fresh for the rest of the day.

The rest of Thursday and Friday was spent with Mrs Jenkins, Mrs Milne and Mrs Bentley in the classroom. We did a little bit of maths, playing lots of games to warm our brains up. In English we wrote a little bit about ourselves, telling everyone what our favourite things are and what we most like to do. Some of us said what we would like to do as a profession when we are older. We also spent some time thinking about our school rules and discussing our new rules of how we will keep safe, protecting everyone from the virus.

Our new topic is Water, Water, Everywhere. We are starting to look at rivers and then we will move on to coasts. This week we each made a 3D fish to hang on the wall and we started to learn a little bit about where rivers are located round the world. Next week our parent letter will be sent out to let you know a little more about our topic and other subjects we will be covering. We will also send you a copy of our Knowledge Organisers. In the future we hope to send letters via email so please make sure we have your up to date email address on our school system.

Homework will start from next week. We will add new work on a Friday and we expect work to be returned by the following Friday. We hope to use Google Classroom unless this is not possible for you and then we will provide paper copies. Please make sure this week you try logging on to the classroom again so you are ready for next Friday. If you are Year 5 you should have an invitation when you log on to Class 4. Please let us know ASAP if you can not access Class 4.

Reading books have been sent home this Friday. We will not be sending reading journals as we are trying not to send too much home or children having to bring things into school as this is another way we can spread the virus. Instead we ask you to read everyday and then each morning as the children come into school they will have their diaries on their desks and they can record the nights or weekends reading. If parents wish to write comments then please do so on a piece of paper and then your child can stick them in their journal. When books come back to school, we have a box where they will be quarantined for 72 hours before returning to our shelves.

If you child has any medication, please make sure we have an in date one in school. Thank you.

Well done for a super first two days back and we look forward to the next few weeks.

Mrs Jenkins ☺
